PDGA World Championships
RESULTS - 🏆PAUL McB6AST & KR1STIN TATTAR
It wasn’t on The Holy Shot level, but the 40th Worlds had hard hitting storylines left and right… A new champ, players making their names known, emotional finishes, and the continuation of McBeth’s era.
MPO/ Thursday’s Round 3 at Jones Supreme was moving day. Some players had unlucky breaks, while others shot the course record (-12, 1072 rated). Aaron Gossage & Paul McBeth were tied at 1st with 2 strokes over the field.
Then after 3 abnormally calm days, Friday’s wind moved the momentum in Gossage’s favor. He pushed ahead by 3 strokes with his simple, clean game of power hyzers.
It felt like the goose vs. the goat at this point. The rest of lead card (Orum & Heimburg) were 5 back, so McBeth was left to stand in Gossage’s way.
Pushing aside impossible stats and injuries, McBeth came focused on Championship Saturday. The 3-stroke deficit was overcome after 6 holes even taking the lead after 10.
But Gossage didn’t roll over… He watched McBeth bogey Hole 15 and tapped in his retake of the lead. Then it was go-time on Hole 16’s island, and what followed were highlights from both.
Hole 16: McBeth’s birdie putt to tie
Hole 17: McBeth’s 70 ft putt to lead
Hole 18: Gossage’s spike hyzer upshot to tie
It felt like history was repeating itself. McBeth’s 6x bid pushed into playoffs with an island hole and thousands of eyes waiting for the end.
As he watched Gossage come up short and OB, McBeth threw his 4x Buzzz deep onto the green. He made the largest comeback in history to win his 6th World title & 17th Major.
FPO/ In Round 3, Henna Blomroos & Eveliina Salonen were vibing on chase card. They shot -9 (1008 rated) and -10 (1016 rated - Jones course record) to push onto lead card with Kristin Tattar and Holyn Handley. It was the 1st time Europeans occupied a Worlds podium.
Then Round 4 came, and Tattar was out of this world. She snagged 11 birdies at ECC for -11 (1026 rated) - shattering the course record by 6 strokes while starting a new era…
FPO players to shoot multiple 1020+ rated rounds in the same event:
Tattar - 2022 Worlds
Pierce - 2021 US Women’s
Pierce - 2020 GMC
Pierce - 2019 Worlds
Pierce - 2016 Rocky Mtn WDGCThat’s the entire list.

She took her 5-stroke lead into Saturday and gave a masterclass in closing. Increasing her lead to 8, Tattar tapped in a -10 (1011 rated) to become the 2nd European to ever win Worlds.
You can bet her AND McBeth’s crew had a blast that night since they stayed in the same house.
STANDOUT PLAYERS
After a rocky year, Tristan Tanner resurfaced onto our screens from B Pool. Not only did his -13 ECC course record remained unmatched, but he backed it up each day.
Tanner finished the week with 3rd place, $7.5k, and an invite to USDGC. Along with him, Chris Clemons & Matty O finished 3rd. Shout out to lefties and Coach Saban.
HIGHLIGHT
Players were hunting Hole 16’s basket all week. Gavin Rathbun rang it up in Round 4 with his EMac Truth.
Question of the Week
Complaints about the Emporia courses came across loud and clear. But many have forgotten the complaints from last year’s Mulligans & The Fort - boring ball golf OB, poor teepads, no warm up area, etc.
It’s easy to point to next year’s Worlds and declare Brewster Ridge & Fox Run as the ultimate pairing. But the Green Mountain Championship at Smuggler’s Notch is already considered one of the best Tour stops each year.
So now that Worlds is over and you’ve seen it play out, what do you think?
Fresh Plastic
Sponsored by Powergrip USA… A PRETTY GOOD disc golf shop.
👉 Powergrip’s Highlight: Sublime Grackle (7|5|-1|2)With all this excitement, you’re itching to buy a McBeth 6-claw or Tattar’s fresh 1x Grace. But give Discraft/Latitude 64 a few weeks to work around the clock for these champs.
Instead, settle for two new releases. First up, the Mint Discs Grackle [gra-kel]noun: A species of large bird found in North America. Typically have a long bill & tail, pale yellow eyes, and are known for controllable distance.
Releasing today (9/6), the Grackle is the latest fairway driver from Austin, TX’s Mint Discs. This 7-speed is suitable for beginners while also responsive to all angles from those more experienced.
Next is the Kastaplast Guld (13|5|-0.5|3) releasing on Thursday (9/8). Only available in the most perfect plastic K1, this fast driver is OS and domey.
Since your strong arm turns over a Wraith, the Guld will be perfect for max distance. Feeling like the 1st runs, these 2nd runs are made with an engraved weight replacing the stickers.
New month, new code. Use PLYRSMTGSEP22 for 10% off your Powergrip order.
Random Dubs
1️⃣ I can neither confirm nor deny if this is true. So keep your ear to the ground, as this could be interesting come spring 2023.
2️⃣ Following in Paul Ulibarri’s footsteps, Innova has decided to get into the coaching game. At their Factory Store in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, you can now get in-person coaching for $50/hr.
For comparison, the Ulibarri Leadership Institute has 4 coaches ranging from $85-$400/hr (Uli himself). While YouTube is free, many say 1-on-1 coaching can be priceless.
