🐣 A basket full of birdies

Birdie or Die, Record Finishes, and April Fools

Hello and welcome, this is The Players Meeting. The only newsletter that doesn’t trust any news that came out yesterday.

Let’s get into it.

RESULTS - 🏆ANTHONY BARELA & ANNIKEN STEEN

We’re finally out of the heavy stretch now. The Texas Swing is always big, but with the women’s Major it felt bigger.

Pros get to breathe a sigh of relief for the upcoming off-week and the Great American Eclipse. In no particular order, here are the storylines you should remember or may have missed:

HIGHLIGHT

To end her 1st round, Lykke Lorentzen’s disc danced in the wind to the basket. Her 272’ skip ace was #10 on Saturday’s SportsCenter.

Later that same day, Evan Smith’s routine 230’ upshot floated in. I can’t think of a more insane wind-assist caught on coverage.

♾️ Infinite’s Highlight: April Fools’ Tour Series
Disc golf’s favorite holiday always has its fair share of funny and cringy jokes.

This year, Infinite Discs decided to change it up. Using their touring pros’ favorite stamps, they’ve slapped them on different signature molds.

Eric Oakley’s Halo S-Blend Exodus (7|5|-0.5|2) - This Eagle-L replacement is the Swiss army knife of fairways. It has the perfect dome to get the best of both flight and hand feel.

James Proctor’s Halo S-Blend Tomb (3|4|0|1) - Your new favorite throwing putter: Flat-topped, low-profile, beaded rim. Say goodbye to the Envy.

Maria Oliva’s Halo S-Blend Pharoah (13|6|-1|2) - For bigger arms, this could be your max distance driver. It flies like your favorite Destroyer and Wraith had a baby.

Joel Freeman’s Halo S-Blend Roman (10|4|0|3) - Three beautiful words: Old Discmania PD.

QUICK HITS
Random Triples

As with all things, there are winners and losers. So after all the April Fools’ shenanigans who came out on top?

1️⃣ Being the patriarch of the bevel-edged disc, Innova has been the center of many memes. But they’ve taken it in stride and brought them to life.

In 2022, Innova acknowledged outspoken fans and created real Halo Polecat collector boxes. In 2023, Innova’s Team Captain - Nate Sexton - enshrined his famous disc with a hand-drawn stamp.

And just yesterday, Innova turned their most controversial disc into Heimburg’s boogielicious “Tour Series.” It sold out in 40 minutes.

2️⃣ Every year, the MVP Open at Maple Hill tweaks the event and course. Yesterday, the DGPT decided to preview some of its “changes.”

The funny thing is there’s a non-zero chance that Steve Dodge might take one of these ideas and run with it.

3️⃣ In hopes of saving courses from vandalism, UDisc added a Disc Charger to its app. The steps are easy: Place phone on disc, turn volume on, and start the charge.

And yes, it does actually work with hilarious sound effects. I’d like to petition UDisc to keep this as a permanent feature.
