NEWS
Cash Grab or Legit Lawsuit?

Another day, another disc golf lawsuit.

This time? A Floridian is suing the richest people in our sport. And public opinion of him is at an all-time low.

Hereā€™s a quick recap:

  • On Sunday, Mike Barnett - Owner of Sun King Discs and workhorse for FL DG - posted that the Gran Canyon course is closed due to a lawsuit against its owners (Paul McBeth & Dylan Cease)

  • Back on MAR 24, Trevor Toenjes sued McCease LLC saying they negligently failed to use reasonable care when he was hit by a disc during Weekend 3 of Throw Down the Mountain

  • Toenjes is asking for $50k in damages for the ā€œsignificant injuriesā€ he suffered even though he seemed just fine at the tournament he won 7 weeks later

  • Sun Kingā€™s upcoming Independence Day Clash is forced to relocate this weekend

So who is Trevor Toenjes? Heā€™s a Clearwater, FL resident and operates Local Route - ā€œthe largest DG Pro Shop in the worldā€. Heā€™s also notorious for pulling stunts like this.

From a source, youā€™d least expect, hereā€™s an example from 9 months agoā€¦

So whatā€™s going to happen? The lawsuit will likely be dismissed due to the fact that he signed a waiver and his beef should be with PDGA insurance claims.

Meanwhile, Toenjes and his store are being dragged through the mud, and the general consensus on the matter isā€¦

Youā€™re suing rich people because you know theyā€™re rich and you have this opportunity. Itā€™s like when somebody slips in a store and theyā€™re like well let me just try to get that money.

And of course, the memes were flowingā€¦

TOGETHER WITH DISC GOLF SWAG
Changing the Dye Game

Iā€™m willing to bet that at one point in your disc golf journey, you looked into dyeing your own discs. Some of you may have even gotten as far as ruining your backup Star Mako3.

Step away from the mess with Disc Golf Swag, where you can:

  • Order custom or existing high-res designs embedded into your disc of choosing

  • Be PDGA legal with discs that have zero added texture or weight

  • Have beautiful discs that will never scratch and always get compliments from your card mates

Taking at most 2 business days to ship, you can play around with their built-in design tool or choose from popular designs. Disc Golf Swagā€™s inventory includes many manufacturers like Innova, MVP, and more.

So leave disc dyeing to the pros, and order your new favorite disc today.

TOUR COVERAGE
The Preserve Championship

PREVIEW (6/30-7/2)

Tomorrow, the Tour grinds its 3rd Elite Event in a row. But to most road warriors, this is a weekend thatā€™s been circled on their calendar for months.

Affectionately known as ā€œCaleā€™s Placeā€, The Preserve property is an abandoned ball golf facility next to the Mississippi River. Since purchasing it in 2020, Leiviska and his team have put in 3 separate courses that challenge all skill levels.

In just 3 years, this has become Minnesotaā€™s premier destination, and with open arms, Leiviska will test his guests on the giant, combined layout- The Black Bear.

But donā€™t get it twisted, this isnā€™t just another ball golf course. From the mind of Dr. Smooth, this is a playground for pros to set off fireworks and give spectators a show.

If they want a shot at the bear trophy, theyā€™ll have to hop on the birdie train early and continue sprinting through the last putt.

LAST YEAR RECAP

MPO/ šŸ„‡Bradley Williams (-32) šŸ„ˆRicky Wysocki (-30) šŸ„‰Kyle Klein & Simon Lizotte (-29)

After 2 very solid rounds, Williams found himself in the lead by 3 strokes. And as others found mistakes, he held strong to finally grab his 2nd DGPT win.

Now heā€™s off conquering other countries like Norway and now the Swedish Open tomorrow.

FPO/ šŸ„‡Paige Pierce (-19) šŸ„ˆMissy Gannon & Ella Hansen (-14)

Winning wire-to-wire, Pierce clearly enjoyed her time out here. And as destiny would have it, this was the 2nd time that Pierce & Williams won the same event. The 1st was the 2016 Vibram Open which was the 1st DGPT ever.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

With Bradley Williams off discovering his European roots, there are a couple of players who have theirs here. Being the course designer, Cale Leiviska has a slight advantage.

And while heā€™s only joined the Tour for 3 events, heā€™s been having himself a year in the MP40 division. Another local legend is Alex Geisinger. He hasnā€™t played a sanctioned event since 2020, but heā€™s 1018 rated and throws a mile.

This season has seen a trend of hometown heroes finding the winnerā€™s circle - Buhr (IA), Robinson (GA), & Mertsch (AR). Why not in Minnesota too?

AM WORLDS & DRILLS
Random Dubs

1ļøāƒ£ In Peoria, IL, the PDGA AM & Junior Worlds kicked off last Saturday with mixed doubles and field events. The competition continues through Saturday with singles.

And while this is the perfect time to scout young talent or watch local buddies go for a Major, itā€™s quickly becoming overshadowed by Canadian wildfire smoke. Already, the air quality has forced the event to halt play and postpone rounds.

Before the smoke rolled in, the juniors captivated everyone during the Long Drive event. Hereā€™s the Girlsā€™ Junior ā‰¤18 winner Eliezra Midtlyng throwing 482ft:

2ļøāƒ£ Thanks to Caroline Henderson and her ongoing form journey, I was reminded of the DG Spin Doctor Sweeper Drill from 9 months ago. So if youā€™re having timing issues, then hereā€™s an oldie but a goodie:

  1. With your front foot, stride forward and point your toes toward the back of the tee

  2. As your front heel hits the ground, sweep with the toes of your back foot and your arm reaching back

  3. Repeat

This will build the feeling of planting fully before starting to throw with your arm. Do this a dozen times, then give the disc a rip.

Pro tip: Save your shoes by doing this in a field or at home
