Let’s get into it.

Dynamic Discs Open

RESULTS - 🏆 RICKY WYSOCKI & KRISTIN TATTAR

Take everything you saw this weekend, bottle it up in a time capsule, and break it open in 4 months for Worlds. We’ll see the same courses again, and you better believe the pros took lots of notes.

MPO/ So far wind has been the theme on Tour. At DDO, players couldn’t catch a break with spring KS winds and tornado watches.

With the extreme weather, the Mean Jones Supreme did exactly what course designer, Eric McCabe, wanted. Its score separation creation caused lots of parity at the top.

Bogey, double, or even a decuple bogey were realities. In Round 1, Albert Tamm racked up 14 strokes on Hole 16 at the Supreme course (5 OB penalties).

Weirdly, the crazy conditions and 2,763 OB strokes weren’t the only cause for players to miss the leaderboard. There were several drop-outs for other reasons:

  • Colten Montgomery - Positive Covid test

  • Tristan Tanner - Positive Covid test

  • Matty O - Positive Covid test

  • Gavin Rathbun - Injury flareup

  • Paul Ulibarri - Going home to rest and heal up from injuries until the Preserve Championship (6/24-26)

  • Paul McBeth - Oh wait, he just missed the final day cut for the 1st time ever…

Poor performances aside, Ricky Wysocki wasn’t phased and held strong against winds and players. After the 2nd day, he popped into 1st with the hot round (-5) and didn’t leave.

Even with 2 rounds (1033 & 1044) below his current rating of 1053, there wasn’t anyone still close enough to challenge him. On Sunday, Bucket Hat Rick increased his 4-stroke lead and made it a race for 2nd.

Simon Lizotte won that race to start his pattern of great finishes in fatherhood. He showed no signs of injury concerns and beat the crowd of 5 players who tied for 3rd.

FPO/ With a more dramatic finish, Kristin Tattar took it down for back-to-back Tour wins. And she did it by playing to par and averaging a 983 rating.

Right off the bat, it was clear that shooting even was good enough for lead card. The OB and required distance on both courses pushed many down the leaderboard.

On the 2nd day, Tattar shot an amazing -6 (1020 rated) to bring her into the lead. What followed was a tornado watch and finally a battle between her and Catrina Allen on Sunday.

The pair dueled all round until the infamous island Hole 16. Going into it, Allen had 1 stroke over Tattar. After it, Tattar had 1 stroke over Allen.

With the help of Allen’s missed 15ft’er, Tattar played to her game plan and won with that 1 stroke. That’ll be the last we’ll see of her for 8 weeks. She’s traveling home for a break and some Euro events until The Preserve.

STANDOUT PLAYER

After playing for just over 2 years, Brodie Smith had his best finish on Tour at 3rd place. Some say his Ultimate Frisbee expertise helped him play in the wind, but Smith has been improving week after week.

Averaging a 1034 rating, he flexed his power and smart decision-making at the difficult courses. And he made good on his promise from before the event started:

And no, he doesn’t say that every week.

HIGHLIGHT

There were TWO aces on Hole 16 at the Country Club. Big Jerm finally witnessed his own & Chloe Alice capped off the final day in style.

Fresh Plastic

Insights by Daddy Disc Golf. SHOP THE SHACK for the latest!

👨‍🏫 Daddy’s Highlight: Latitude 64 Grand Orbit Rive (13|5|0|3.5)This year, Lat64 gave the Orbit Rive to 4 players as their Tour Series. And for good reason, it’s beautiful and perfect for their go-to distance driver.

Orbit plastic is Lat64’s version of Halo Star. It feels like their Gold line but with a tick more overstability and color-pop. Everyone loves “halo” and demand is at an all-time high.

Even Wysocki’s new Sockibomb Slammer got the Orbit treatment. He was slinging that painter’s tape-rimmed disc through Emporia’s wind, but you had to be there to have a chance at buying one.

Want to get your hands on that fresh orbit plastic, but don’t want to wait? Understable molds like Lat64 Diamond and Bolt fly even further in Orbit plastic for the average arm speed. And they’re easier to get and replace.

For Chris Dickerson fans, he and Discraft are officially launching his website today (5/3) at 7PM EST. Like McBeth, Pierce, and other Discraft pros, his site will have exclusive disc and merch drops.

Those nickname shirts he gifted Sexton and Big Jerm are available as well as hard to find premium Chally OS’s.

Random Dubs

1️⃣ If you’ve ever played in a tournament, then you’ve experienced a dreaded backup many times. Tournament play is slow and can mess up your normal flow.

Instead of hopping on your phone, give the game of Kendama a try. On the latest Am Side Podcast, Gavin Babcock spoke of his love for this wooden cup-and-ball game.

He says, Kendama will keep your mind working and your body warm. I guess Babcock doesn’t get killer quads from just wrestling and weight lifting… Kendama squats are a thing.

2️⃣ I love disc golf. You love disc golf. But we can’t compare to the 617 people who played the Estonian Järva-Jaani 100 this past weekend.

Walking 13 miles, they played 100 different holes over 10-12 hours in a SINGLE day. The winner scored -60 while throwing a total of 249 times. And the highest score was +155 with 464 total throws.
