Wrong-handed, Fantasy DG, and BMW Bets

Hello and welcome to week 12 of the off-season. The light is at the end of the tunnel… Vegas is in one month.

Let’s get into this week.

The Next Big Thing

On Running It, Nate Sexton spoke to Eagle McMahon about his life and the future of DG. The 24 year old has already had a great career. And when compared to McBeth at 24, McMahon is on pace to maybe match or pass the goat 🐐.

Accolades aside, Sexton wanted to know what would impress McMahon in the next 5-10 years. His answer: 19 year old kids throwing both righty & lefty BH equally far.

Known for his sidearm distance/control, McMahon is equally known for his various injuries and rehab tactics. He understands that throwing sidearm is tough on the body, and there’s a distance ceiling compared to BH.

McMahon hasn’t been shy on sharing his adventures into throwing left-handed. During his 2020 vlogmas, he played a full round throwing only lefty at his very short home course.

To no one’s surprise, he shot -9 on 18 holes averaging 220ft. But that was over a year ago… He’s now throwing ~400ft accurately lefty BH.

Will being ambidextrous eventually replace a 500ft sidearm? McMahon definitely thinks so and plans to beat everyone else there.

Contracts Watch

🚨 NEW 🚨

Catrina Allen finally announced she’ll be throwing for DGA. This (not) surprising move seems to be DGA’s attempt to come back into the fold. With Andrew Marwede and Allen, they have two true contenders at every event.
Linus Carlsson - 22 year old Swede 🇸🇪 is the 11th highest rated player in the world (1035), and just switched from Innova to Latitude 64. He’ll be in the states for 7 months this season and wants to win at least one big event.
Cynthia Ricciotti - DD player turned Discmania for 2022. She’ll be with her teammate, touring partner, & bf (Kyle Klein) in a converted van this season.
Cam Colglazier - The once Prodigy player is 1031 rated and now on the Infinite Discs 2022 Elite Team.
A.J. Risley - Not exactly a contract change, but Risley has joined the Dynamic Discs media team as a full-time employee. He’s had a plaguing arm injury for years that has limited his pro play and affected his mental game. With his experience in media and already being on DD, this move seems perfect for him.

Fresh Plastic

Another week, another new Innova FD. The Hawkeye (Disney™️) seems to be identical to the Innova Dark Rebel with slightly more glide.

Wait, didn’t they just release the Dark Rebel as a FD replacement? Innova’s lineup is so deep some discs are different by no more than 0.1 cm.

But the tiniest of changes CAN make a difference. So maybe a new team member wanted the tweak… Hailey King just announced her Signature Disc will be the Halo Star Hawkeye.

Innova is taking advantage of Discmania’s lower production numbers by actually getting discs into people’s hands. This shows in Infinite Discs’ recent blog post: The 100 Best-Selling Discs in 2021.

Discmania had only one disc in Infinite’s Top 100, while Innova & Discraft dominated the list. But in reality those companies probably sent the most discs to retailers.

Even with their new Swedish factory up and running, it’s TBD if there’s enough true Discmaniacs left after Innova releases their whole lineup.

Random Triples

UDisc released the most popular courses in each state for 2021. Keep in mind “most popular” isn’t “best” while looking up your state’s.
Apparently there’s a crossover between fantasy football and disc golfers. For those who obsess over FF, you can now obsess over Fantasy DG since the seasons don’t overlap. Jonny V (the brains behind every live broadcast & SmashboxxTV) runs SkipAce.com Fantasy Disc Golf League.From the man himself: “Draft a team against friends, and keep that team all year. Compete against your league week over week, just like traditional fantasy sites.”
Adam Hammes and Anthony Barela had a little distance comp. Longest drives: AB 686ft & Hammes 648ft. Watch out McBeth 🔑.
