Green Mountain Championship

RESULTS - 🏆RICKY WYSOCKI & KRISTIN TATTAR

Going from hot and humid to sleeves and pants, conditions differed from the last few months. Those who adjusted came out on top at the magical mountains of Vermont.

MPO/ As like all 1st rounds, it was tight at the top with previous winners. To stay in the grouping, double digits was the mark each day.

In Round 2, Ricky Wysocki led with a -11 (1081 rated) on Fox Run. He continued the next day with another -11 (1070) on Brewster gaining a 2-stroke lead on Chris Dickerson and 3 on Isaac Robinson.

The first 3 days of picturesque fall weather finally gave in on Championship Sunday. With early heavy rain, “Raincoat Ricky” charged into the chaotic start while others played tentatively.

And Wysocki didn’t slow down, even growing his lead to 6 at one point. But as live viewers dropped off thinking it was over, Hole 14 brought the drama.

It started with “Umbrella Gate” which maybe saved Wysocki an OB stroke, but what the course gives it also takes. He then missed 2 putts and rolled OB giving 3 strokes back to Dickerson.

His confidence was shaken. After grinding out a 5-stroke lead, it shrunk to 2 in an instant. Dickerson went on to tie Wysocki in the next 2 holes.

Staring down Hole 18, Dickerson threw OB right making the worst mistake possible, and it was over. Wysocki won his 5th GMC putting him back at #1 in DGPT standings… and in his eyes the best player in the world.

FPO/ It felt like we were re-watching Worlds but with thousands of trees thrown in the mix. Henna Blomroos came out strong with Kristin Tattar right behind. The pair shot -3 (1021 rated) and -2 (1013) respectively.

For 2 more days, Tattar and Blomroos pushed further from their competitors with ratings reflecting that. In Round 2, Tattar hit -6 (1030 rated) while Blomroos had -3 (1007).

Even allowing Blomroos back into a tie, Tattar's consistency wouldn't allow her to lose. She averaged a 1006 rating beating Blomroos by 7 and the field by 10.

This was her 4th Tour win in a row. Will she win out the rest of the season?

STANDOUT PLAYER

Ohn Scoggins is the current Masters World Champ & Tim Selinske US Masters Champ. She dominates her age-protected division of Pro Women 40+ and chooses to compete on Tour against many half her age.

This weekend she finished in 3rd while averaging a 985 rating. Scoggins now sits in the highly contested 4th spot of the DGPT standings behind Tattar, Paige Pierce, & Catrina Allen.

HIGHLIGHT

On Saturday, three players eagle’d the 620ft Hole 11 on Brewster Ridge. Jake Hebenheimer, Matty O, and Emerson Keith each drove the disc to 38ft, 16ft, and 5ft respectively.

The Road to 1000

Currently 987 rated, Kristin Tattar is on her way to becoming the 1st woman to ever reach 1000. It won’t be next month, but if she continues playing at this level then it will happen.

But who cares about ratings? While it has flaws, it’s currently the best way to compare across courses, events, and even divisions.

And Tattar’s dominating victories could be huge for the entire FPO division. She and the field are demonstrating that talent is rising, and it’s giving viewers more incentive to tune in.

Fresh Plastic

Sponsored by Powergrip USA… A PRETTY GOOD disc golf shop.

👉 Powergrip’s Highlight: Discmania S-Line PD Nordic Phenom (10|4|0|3)There’s something about Finland and disc golf. It’s ranked as the 2nd best country, trails only the US in course numbers, and produces young talent that’s changing the game.

Eveliina Salonen, Henna Blomroos, & Niklas Anttila are in that pool. At 21, Anttila already has an impressive resume with Euro Pro Tour, Prodigy Pro Tour, and Finnish National wins.

He’s the Nordic Phenom that Discmania scooped in 2018, and his latest Signature Series disc - the S-Line PD - will be dropping tomorrow (9/21). The ever-popular Discmania PD finally gains new life.

The Special Blend plastic feels identical to the latest Cloud Breaker. So following in those footsteps, these PDs are flat and fly straighter than stock C-Line.

If you’re a PD fan, then this is a release you can’t skip. While you can never have too many beefy PDs, a less stable version without the beat-in time is tantalizing.

Random Dubs

1️⃣ In just 2 days, the MVP Open will start along with its Million Dollar Shot contest. Discussed in last week’s edition, 12 players will be invited to throw based on UDisc’s new metric.

Precise Power Index is a measure of a player's ability to throw long-distance shots that set them up well to score. It uses a combination of landing zone and hole distance data to determine how close to the basket a player can land their throws on the longest holes on tour. This metric is tracked at the season-level.

As of GMC, these are the PPI standings:

2️⃣ After seeing Aaron Gossage’s success at Worlds, many have attempted their best impression of the Goose’s FH. But now shoulder/elbow pain is running rampant.

One Gossage enthusiast asked him directly how he does it. He said:

  • Before throwing, do rotator cuff strengthening exercises

  • Ice after each round

  • Focus on a palm-up release with plenty of spin. Distance doesn’t have to come from raw arm power

  • And the last one’s easy… Play every day
