Music Mountain, Reinvent Your Name, and Baggers
Hello and welcome, this is The Players Meeting. Your secret weapon to staying updated on disc golf.Email Read Time: 4 Minutes & 49 Seconds
If you missed the TX States recap, then I got you: Every rose has its Thorn
Let’s get into it.
Music City Open (Silver Series)
PREVIEW (4/1-3)
The 2nd Silver Series is in Nashville, TN this weekend. It’s not the same tournament as last year - it’s now 1 course over 3 days instead of 2 over 4.
The Mill Ridge Park course has a modified layout. But still showcases mostly long, open holes on rolling hills. Like Jonesboro Open, you’ll see plenty of high shots over trees and thorns…
They should have named the Music City Open course The Thorn.

Many notable pros are taking a break or playing elsewhere before the 1st 2022 Major in two weeks. The 1040 boys will be the main attraction, and they still have big arms (Dickerson, Hammes, & Klein).
It’s more sparse with the FPO. Paige Pierce, Catrina Allen, & Hailey King (defending champ) are taking the week off. And TX States was Kristin Tattar’s last event before a quick break in Estonia.
This means we’ll see different names on the leaderboard. Valerie Mandujano might keep her hot streak going. And fingers crossed, Eveliina Salonen can overcome her putting yips to take her rightful spot at the top.
LAST YEAR RECAP
Played in late September, it was the 2021 National Tour Finale. Pros played both Cedar Hill & Mill Ridge Park.
MPO/ Mason Ford took it down for his 1st big win ever. And it didn’t come easy for the young pro… He had to beat Ricky Wysocki in a 1 hole playoff.
By being consistent, Ford was able to accurately place his shots and capitalize with minimal bogeys.
FPO/ It was a different story for the FPO champ, Hailey King. She won wire-to-wire, but played inconsistently… Lots of birdies and lots of bogeys. Her distance was the winning factor.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Kevin Jones hasn’t made a splash yet except for his 4th place finish at LVC. His impossible grenade throws and hyzer shots get him looks no one else has.
With his new contract and signature line, Jones wants to pop off this year. And why not start with a Silver Series event.
You’ll be able to watch these players live for the final round on DGN. Or on next-day coverage at the DGPT YouTube channel.
Throw Down the Mountain (A-Tier)
PREVIEW (4/1-3)
The Disc Golf Gods blessed us this week with TWO well-attended events having post-round coverage. So I’ll keep this short and sweet.
The event plays on the Gran Canyon course in Brooksville, FL. It’s a temp course played on private property and is only open for 4 weeks of the year.
Due to it only being an A-Tier, there aren’t as many big names playing. We got Thomas Gilbert, Calvin Heimburg, and some guy named McBeth attending.
Bad news for others as Heimburg and McBeth are coming in with huge chips on their shoulders. So if you’re putting money down, then pick the Floridian or the soon-to-be Floridian.
You’ll be able to watch post-round coverage only on Terry Miller’s The Disc Golf Guy channel.
The Prophet
On this week’s The Upshot Interview, Jussi Meresmaa spoke about the future of disc golf. He’s the Discmania founder & CEO, Finland’s Entrepreneur of the Year, a book author, and the man who might lead us into the future.
Here are the quick hits from the man of many titles:
Plastic isn’t the future for discs. Under NDAs, Jussi’s working with several “big, external” companies to figure out a sustainable solution.
Disc golf will find its place in mainstream broadcasting, whether it’s ESPN Primetime or elsewhere.
In the very near future, there will be more external money and investors coming into the sport.
From his accomplishments, it’s obvious Jussi knows what he’s talking about. And he had a final warning to us all…
“This snowball is rolling, and it’s rolling fast.” - Jussi Meresmaa
Random Dubs
1️⃣ Innova may lose its self-proclaimed title as “The Choice of Champions.” Some unsavory hints have surfaced recently.
After taking down TX States, Ricky Wysocki went to Twitter to thank Dynamic Discs for their “amazing support system” and how it motivates him to win.
Harpoon Larry, a custom stamps retailer, aired out complaints against Innova’s new policy. No longer can retailers order custom stamps as fundraisers for any Star/Champion Team members (basically all their touring pros).
To round it out, Jussi Meresmaa revealed that Innova’s re-release of Discmania’s Originals was a surprise. It confused him that the biggest company would use very similar names (Fairway Disc, Power Disc, & Mid-disc 3) following their split.
To Innova, Jussi had one reply: “May the best player win.”
2️⃣ If you missed it, Jake Hebenheimer had some camera time in TX. And he showed off his unique cornhole putt.
Meme of the Week
Let’s get it out of our system. Here’s your Will Smith meme attempted by Uli himself.
And here’s the real meme of the week:
Thanks for reading today. Get out and play a new course this weekend!
