šŸæ Nikko Locastro's $100k

Buttery Putters, All-Star Finish, and Plastic Insights

Hello and welcome, this is The Players Meeting. The email you rely on to keep up with disc golf weekly. Subscribe to get it every Wednesday.

Itā€™s the last week of the off-season. All-Stars was fun, but the real season starts in 8 days.

Letā€™s get into it.

Locastroā€™s Payday

The elusive Nikko Locastro has signed with an unknown Finnish manufacturer, Clash Discs. The deal is a 1-year contract of six digits ($100k) and his own signature line of discs.

But Clash only has 6 PDGA approved discs in their lineup. And the kickerā€¦ You canā€™t get them in the US yet.

This signing is pretty ideal for Locastro. He gets to throw an open bag (his preference), make good contract money, AND join the signature line club.

The Showman proved haters wrong this weekend at the All-Star event.

DGPT All-Star Event

RESULTS - šŸ† TEAM CALVIN & TEAM CATRINA

What a weekend. After the draft Thursday, the event already felt decided. Team Eagle and Team Paige seemed stacked.

If you didnā€™t have a DGN subscription, then you didnā€™t miss any drama on Friday & Saturday. Sure the big arms bombed discs and the best putters put a lot of circles in baskets. But after doubles play on Saturday, the teams were basically tied.

On Sunday, the teams had a chance to earn up to 7 points each making the past 2 days a wash. At the end, it came down to the team captains making clutch putts and minimal mistakes.

Catrina Allen beat Paige Pierce by 3 strokes to lead her team to victory. And Calvin Heimburg was forced to make his final putt to win over Eagle McMahonā€™s highlight throw-in (see šŸ‘‡).

With many players rocking new sponsorships, some were confident in their new plastic while others struggled. Chris Dickerson, Hailey King, & Kona Panis looked a little shaky, but thereā€™s no doubt theyā€™ll be more dialed next week.

STANDOUT PLAYERS

It was obvious that Catrina Allen has been putting in the work this off-season. You wouldnā€™t have known she was throwing a whole bag of different discs.

From her confidence on the putting green to her long bombs, Allen showed sheā€™s ready for more competition when the Europeans join the Pro Tour next week.

šŸ‘Øā€šŸ« Daddyā€™s Disc of the Week: Discmania & Eagle McMahonā€™s Iron Samurai 3 is dropping today. This is the 1st time his Signature Series MD3 is released in color glow c-line AND in this new blend of Italian plastic from their factory.

This release is important to watch. All previous Iron Samuraiā€™s were Innova runs and highly sought after discs. Itā€™ll be a test for Discmania: Will they sell out because of hype or their flight?

So get those fingers ready at 11AM to shop your favorite retailer or Discmania.net. Good luck!

Pro tip: Order the color blue if you like domey or pink for flat tops.

2022 Innova Tour Series Insights:

  • Bradley Williams, Color Glow Pro Pig - Same beautiful color and feel but FLAT like older versions (2019-2020).

  • James Proctor, MF Champ Max - This run isnā€™t exactly aligned with its name. Itā€™s not the beef cake of stock runs, but with a lower parting line it fights the wind while still going far.

  • Deann Carey, Splatter Star Mako3 - Splatter doesnā€™t get run too often. So if you love Mako3ā€™s, pick one up for their tacky grip and flight plate feel.
