NEWS
DGPT & UDisc Break Up

Let me paint a pictureā€¦

3 days from now, youā€™re waking up before the crack of dawn, driving an hour, and checking in to your 1st tourney of 2024. As the coffee hits, you remember the new PDGA rule that ā€œall players will now be required to keep score for the whole group.ā€

No worries. Obviously, you came prepared with a fully charged phone and the PDGA Live app pre-downloadedā€¦ No? Well, hopefully, touring pros will be more ready, cause things are changing this season.

Last week, the DGPT announced its transition from UDisc Live to a ā€œnew and improved PDGA Live scoring platform.ā€ This change ends UDiscā€™s 8-season partnership and brings in StatMandoā€™s team to elevate scores and stats.

What does this impact?

  • Players wonā€™t have to keep scores on both UDisc and PDGA Live

  • DGN graphics might look different (score bug & transition screens)

  • World Rankings & Points Standings wonā€™t be hosted on UDisc

  • USDGC tracker, Presidents Cup, and other qualifiers fall back under PDGA/TDs

  • New fan experience for checking live scores: TBD

  • Old UDisc Live data will be saved and kept on record

What are the implications?

  • New data like distance to target on every throw (per Evan Kerns)

  • DGPT controls the data and web traffic with an app or new site: TBD

  • Sports betting becomes more viable (fantasy & wagering)

The takeaway: This was inevitable, whether it was a separation or acquisition. UDisc will lose out on 1 of its revenue streams, but in turn, it can put all its resources into its bread & butter: casual players on its app.

Either way, the DGPT, PDGA, & StatMando will face an uphill battle in the eyes of fans. Fingers crossed the roll-out will go better than when Champions Cup was scheduled over the Europe Swing.

On Monday, Eliezra [eh-LEE-ez-RAH] Midtlyng was on Staggered Stance for her 1st podcast interview. Not knowing much about the 16-year-old bomber, it was eye-opening.

Hereā€™s what you need to know:

  • With no prior athletic background, she randomly found JomezProā€™s 2019 Worlds coverage

  • Living on a farm in NH, she and her siblings (4 brothers & 1 sister) started throwing pot lids into trash cans

  • They moved to NJ where she took advantage of being homeschooled with a course 5-min away

  • Before winning 2023 Junior Worlds, she waited a month to put in any time on fieldwork. Instead, sheā€™d watch YouTube

Iā€™d watch everything that came outā€¦ and would just take little things from different players and add them all together and somehow I got a pretty good form.

Midtlyng (Staggered Stance)
  • 3 months later, she placed top-10 at Throw Pink

  • She can throw 550ft and plans to take the sport as far as she can

The lesson: Go back in time to before you start any sports. Watch every video on pro form and technique. Be young, train for a month, then profit.

šŸ‘‰ Powergripā€™s Highlight: Discmania S-Line TD (10|5|-2|1)
Daily rounds are coming sooner than you thinkā€¦ Punxsutawney Phil predicted an early spring and Daylight Savings starts in a month.

To shake off your winter rust, grab Discmaniaā€™s reinvented TD available today (2/7) at 11 AM ET. Itā€™s a true bomber for average arms while being workable for pros without turning and burning.

Hereā€™s Gannon Buhr smoothing it out to 450ft:

This is the first run of TD since the pandemic. They have a slight dome with a moderate parting line and a profile that feels closer to the CD1 than the DD1.

If youā€™re familiar with the Sapphire or Essence, then the TD is similar but flies farther. Donā€™t sleep on understable discs and bag the TD today!

QUICK HITS
Random Triples

1ļøāƒ£ If you follow any of the Finnish players, then you know they take off-season training seriously. It may be cold and snowy outside, but theyā€™re working hard in their indoor facilities.

Watch as Kristian Kuoksa smacks 400ft from his knees. If youā€™re unaware of him, then just know he throws 700ft with a run-up.

As for things you can actually relate to, hereā€™s a FH tip from the Finnish National Coach - Joonas MerelƤ. When your front foot contacts, itā€™s important to create parallel planes with your upper arm (shoulder to elbow) and the ground.

This will create enough space for your arm to travel properly from reach back to release. And it can prevent extra stress on your arm.

2ļøāƒ£ The mysterious edit in Simon Lizotteā€™s unboxing video has been revealed. MVP co-owner - Chad Richardson - gave fans a peek behind the curtain of his Frankensteinā€™d molds.

This among many things tipped the scales in MVPā€™s favor when Eagle McMahon was choosing his next move.

3ļøāƒ£ Have you ever dreamed of sleeping in the GOATā€™s bed, cooking where heā€™s cooked, and playing on his course? Well nowā€™s your chance to stay at Paul McBethā€™s previous VA home.

It was just made available on AirBnB and features his 2022 Worlds trophy, the Goliath course (par 62, 7516ft), and is 5 miles from this yearā€™s Worlds.

If only it came with the McLaren for the weekend.
