RESULTS - 🏆SIMON LIZOTTE & OHN SCOGGINS

Everyone knows there’s never a dull moment at the Toboggan, and we had another action-packed weekend. In no particular order, here are the storylines you should remember or may have missed:

1 - It was not a walk in the park.

While still Toboggan at its core, the course was a whole new monster. To the delight of some and agony of others, the game is a-changin’, and with it comes more OB.

Every shot mattered with score separators on all holes. Besides battling lightning and rain, pros balanced long drives, accurate placements, and key C2 putts.

Moving past initial criticism, the reception was positive by pros and fans alike. After all, this was one of the premier events all year, and we have the staff, volunteers, and spectators to thank for it.

2 - “You don’t have to be big. You don’t have to be the strongest person to be good.” - Ella Hansen

You just have to be Ohn Scoggins. After 14 podium finishes, the 42-year-old has finally taken down an Elite event and has more than her cheerful demeanor to thank for it.

From hundreds of putts and multiple practice rounds a day, Scoggins is the definition of hard work. As a result, she’s the People’s Champ that consistently hits big putts, Destroyer upshots, and flex FHs.

Her wire-to-wire, 1000-rated victory is best summed up in these words…

You don’t need to be even throwing far. You just want to be in bounds… Here’s the thing, this is disc golf. Sometimes you play good, sometimes you play bad.

Scoggins on Thursday

Ohn is really consistent. She’s a really good player. And, you know, I’m rooting for her as well.

Hansen on Saturday

It means a lot. I work so hard. I never take a day off yet. I have been putting after the round. It just finally comes together… Your week is your week.

Scoggins after her win

3 - “He’s the nicest, friendliest, goofiest killer you may be ever gonna come up against.” - Nate Sexton

After 3 days, we were somehow blessed to have a Crush Boy Showdown. Coming in with a 100% win rate at DGLO, McMahon was poised to keep the streak alive.

But once the round started, it became Lizotte’s to lose. Immediately, he smashed a 50-footer that was followed by an OB-rollaway by McMahon.

After that, the pair matched blows until Lizotte took the “Simon Line” to a whole new level. On Hole 16, he watched McMahon throw OB short, changed his plan, and then intentionally threw OB behind the basket.

He broke the hole and made everyone realize that he’s out there playing chess while they were playing checkers. Like Scoggins, it was a clear-cut victory and the crowd was more than happy to chant “Simon”.

Dating back to May 2022, Lizotte now has the most Elite/Major wins (6) on Tour. Is it a coincidence that “Killer Simon” emerged 3 months after his son was born?

4 - Tying up loose storylines.

With 4 days and hundreds of feet of elevation, there were too many storylines to cover in 5 minutes. So let’s tie up some loose ends…

  1. The competition level has not only risen in MPO. Scoggins’s win set the record for most unique winners in any FPO season at 8.

  2. Finishing 13th, Juliana Korver moved up into the Tour Championship bubble. She has 2 more events to keep her spot, but if she does then it’d be a monumental achievement for the 52-year-old.

  3. Over 4 days, Alden Harris made 37 putts within 33ft (100%) and 10 out of 20 putts within 66ft (50%). At this course, he didn’t have an advantage off the tee but his putting will make a difference in 8 days at Worlds.

  4. As for some lowlights, Catrina Allen has now recorded her 3 lowest career finishes in a row. And the world’s highest-rated player (Manabu Kajiyama) finished 66th with an average rating of 992.

HIGHLIGHT

If Heimburg isn’t leading the tournament, then you know he’s gunning for it. He had not 1, but 2 throw-ins on Sunday.

The 1st on Hole 6 with his signature Millennium Draco. He flexed it in from 297ft for eagle.

Then like magic, Vinny hit another eagle from 278ft to bring him -7 in just 5 holes. But the hard Back 9 cooled him down quickly, and he finished in 5th.

👉 Powergrip’s Highlight: VIP Glimmer Underworld (7|6|-3|1)
Flippy. Floaty. Beautiful. No, I’m not talking about the rubber duck in your tub. I’m talking about the Westside Discs Underworld.

If you haven’t thrown one of these before, then don’t let the numbers scare you. This is a disc everyone should throw at least twice.

Straight out of the box, it’s the truest hyzer flip disc you’ll ever find. Even the floppiest of noodle arms can shape beautiful lines that they’ve only seen the pros do.

And if you’re Mr. Big Arm, then there’s always a use for a “get out of jail free” disc. This thing will always flip into a perfect roller that ends right whenever you need it.

Or if you’re already familiar with the Underworld, then take a look at the VIP Ice Orbit run. It’s got the most pop top you’ll ever see on this mold and will make the OG 6 glide look like child’s play.

#1 EUROPEAN & FAN SURVEY
Random Dubs

1️⃣ Across the globe, there were more ups and downs than the Toboggan. Kristin Tattar went through the wringer to take down the last big title she’s been waiting for.

In her home country, the European Disc Golf Championships belonged to her. On the 2nd day of 4, Tattar took a 14-stroke lead with a 1054-rated round.

For FPO, it was the 5th best-rated of all time and her career best. But to close out the win, she went all the way to the lowest low.

Her 892-rated final round wasn’t just bad. It’s statistically inconceivable.

StatMando did the math, and based on her last 2 seasons, she had a 0.001% chance of shooting a round that low. Whether it was nerves, an injury, or even the Estonian President, clearly, there were several anomalies at play.

Thankfully, in an Estonian interview, Tattar squashed any concerns about her elbow and said she’s looking forward to playing in Worlds later this month.

2️⃣ It’s time for the 2nd annual Ultiworld/StatMando survey where we learn things about ourselves that we probably wouldn’t want to know otherwise.

Last year, it took 1500 answers to figure out that most of us are white millennial men who love Tattar & Lizotte. What will we find out this year?

In a few months, Ultiworld will publish the results and provide insights into our obsession with disc golf. The survey took me about 10 minutes.
