Let’s get into it.

Jonesboro Open

RESULTS - 🏆 CALVIN HEIMBURG & KRISTIN TATTAR

MPO/ This weekend ended with a Paul McBeth shank and a Calvin Heimburg park job for the W. But that’s only the tip of the iceberg… Some quick hits:

  • Kevin Jones back on lead card as if he never dropped off. And proving it with a 174ft eagle throw-in.

  • Keeping the season rolling, Gannon Buhr finishes in the top-10 again.

  • Eagle McMahon dislocates his shoulder and drops out. The timeline for his return to the Tour is undetermined.

  • Lizotte shows off his new dad strength with -13 on Saturday (1093 rated).

The windiest Jonesboro Open ever shook things up. We saw familiar names at the top (Heimburg, McBeth, & KJ USA) and some less familiar names (Alden Harris). But like a broken record, it came down to the last hole.

Against bad break after bad break, McBeth was “tired” of not winning and turned McBeast mode on. Staying close to Heimburg & KJ, he solo-birdied hole 17 making it a 3-way tie into the last hole.

As if it were scripted, hole 18 played the hardest all weekend. The 3 top dogs knew a birdie was the only way to win or force a playoff. Heimburg and McBeth delivered, while KJ USA settled for 3rd place.

Their playoff was over after the 1st throw. McBeth blamed his shanked drive on the tee pad scrunching up on his follow-through, and he’s not wrong

This was Heimburg’s 1st big win in 1.5 years (not counting his severe weather win). Maybe Contract Year Calvin is finally over his stint as always the bridesmaid never the bride.

FPO/ With Paige Pierce on a Major win hangover and Catrina Allen off her game, there’s only one way to describe this weekend: Kristin Tattar domination.

No one deserved to win more than Tattar. And she slammed the door shut on the doubters with a 10-stroke win over the field.

She credits her success this weekend to having a short memory. But historically, the Jonesboro FPO margin of victory has been a landslide for years. Still take notes folks… Tattar is the #1 woman in the world.

STANDOUT PLAYER

Kat Mertsch has been putting up great performances this season. And her improvement hasn’t gone unnoticed.

This weekend she was back in her home state of AR and looked comfortable taking home 3rd. Her laid-back attitude and down-to-earth vibes have earned her many new fans. Here’s to hoping the 20-year-old continues her great season.

HIGHLIGHT

Calvin “Sunday White” Heimburg has ice in his veins.

Big Money

Today (4/26), there’s some extra entertainment happening. Eagles Crossing is hosting their Big Money Skins Match with GK Pro.

This is the infamous, world-class course that everyone’s been itching to see more of and to make the pilgrimage to one day. Apparently, it’s the most “must play” course ever.

And it’s giving Tour Series Skins the royal treatment. Calvin Heimburg, Brodie Smith, Scott Stokely, AND Simon Lizotte (replacing Eagle due to injury) will be showcased with a payout of over $20k.

Dave McCormack, Gateway Discs founder and course designer, created a way to “bet” on your favorite player. For each pro, you can purchase a “pledge” level that includes merchandise. If you picked the pro who ends with the highest $ amount, then you’ll receive a prize valued between $20 - $60.

Now if you just want to tune in for the trash talk and Simon Lines, then wait for the videos to be posted on GK Pro’s channel.

👨‍🏫 Daddy’s Highlight: Disc Dyeing

Born 2 Fly, a local MD company to Daddy Disc Golf, has been dyeing discs for years. Their trademark dye is a very colorful rainbow swirl pattern.

Disc dyeing is nothing new. But with the growth of the sport, many artists have found discs to be their perfect canvases. And like all art, there are dozens of methods and trademarks.

Like throwing the disc, dyeing is easy to get into but hard to be 1000-rated at. Last year, UDisc published an easy guide to dipping your hands into it.

Support your local dyer cause you definitely have one, or support ours with Born 2 Fly at Daddy DG’s shop. Many new discs by them will be dropping today at 12PM EST.

1️⃣ Add another tally to the “Best Course Ever” count.

2️⃣ Is Andrew Fish part of a dying breed? He’s a full-time professional engineer and part-time professional disc golfer. David Henry (Goats Reviews blog) posed that question to his readers last week.

In this modern era, we see most pros as full-time road warriors/part-time content creators. But as Henry points out, it wasn’t long ago when the old GOATs were winning world titles and cashing checks from “real” jobs.

Fish is both sides of that coin. He gives off the impression of a full-time pro while not being one. And does so by having his hands in lots of things:

With DG’s incredible growth, Fish-like pros will never cease to exist.
