If you missed the LMO recap, then I got you: Fresh Cuts for the New Season

Let’s get into it.

New World Championship (Silver)

PREVIEW (11/11-13)

This will be the last DGPT stop of 2022 while also counting towards next season. And thankfully, it’s going to be a great finale before winter’s dry spell.

Jacksonville, FL and the New World Sports Complex will host pros flocking to the Sunshine state. With 4 courses, a ball golf course, cross-country training, and a pro shop, this property is heaven on earth.

Playing the Schusterick-designed Red Course, pros will see holes on ball golf fairways with OB paths running through. Unlike Lake Marshall, the registration list is filled with top players trying to scratch their competitive itch.

If this weekend goes well, the Tour might start 2024’s season in FL. There were rumors that the 2023 calendar season would start there, but with the schedule already out those plans could be pushed.

2019 RECAP

Back in 2017 & 2018, the Red Course was home to the DGPT Championship. Ricky Wysocki won in 2017, while Chris Dickerson shot hot all 4 days to win in 2018.

The last New World Championship was held in 2019 as an A-Tier. JohnE McCray - the Ageless Wonder - beat out names like Lance Brown, Cam Messershmidt, & Garrett Gurthie.

PLAYER TO WATCH

Paul & Hannah McBeth recently became Jacksonville residents for the off-season. Hannah explained on her podcast - Par Tee - that the move was to relieve Paul’s stress levels with optimal training weather (barring late-season Nicole).

McBeth’s move might pay itself off after this weekend. You’ll be able to watch the final round live on DGN or the next-day coverage on DGPT’s YouTube channel.

Stress & Strain of The Tour

The 2023 season will be packed with Major, Playoffs, Elite+, Elite, and Silver events. From May 12th to September 24th, there isn’t an off-week in sight.

Besides the addition of Elite+, Silver Series are renamed to Silver events. This year, they acted like honeypots (EZ money for top pros), compounding stressors for mid-tier pros, and an event testing ground.

From now on, Silvers will be a way to keep long-standing events on Tour while still giving mid-tier pros a shot for the spotlight. As for a DG minor league, the DGPT just announced 8 separate events to give aspiring pros a pathway to the coveted Tour Card.

At the end of the “2023 qualifying series”, the top 6 MPO & 3 FPO players will earn their 2024 Tour Card. This status gives them perks including event pre-registration, player amenities, and the title “Touring Pro.”

The events are not yet announced, but keep your calendar open. You wouldn’t want to miss your chance to join Tour Life.

Fresh Plastic

Sponsored by Powergrip USA… A PRETTY GOOD disc golf shop.

👉 Powergrip’s Highlight: Prodigy 350G PA-3 (3|4|0|1)There are several new drops tomorrow (11/10) across Prodigy AND Trilogy. Available at 1AM ET, Prodigy has 2 special edition stamps to celebrate their 17-year-old star - Gannon Buhr.

  1. 350G PA-3 with “#1 Putter from C2 | DGPT 2022”. If you want to putt like him, grab a stack of these and only practice from 30ft. These compare to the Kastaplast Reko but in Prodigy’s firm base blend that stays grippy after thousands of putts.

  2. 400 D1 (13|5|0|3) with US Champion Permafrost stamp. Being very fast and OS, this is the workhorse of every Prodigy-sponsored player.

Each of Trilogy’s branches is dropping a special release at 12PM ET.

  1. Westside Discs - VIP-X Sorcerer (13|5|-0.5|3) with Tyyni stamp. In their stiffest and most durable plastic, this run is the most OS they come.

  2. Latitude 64 - Zero Medium Orbit Pure (3|3|-1|1). Everyone’s favorite straight-to-US putter gets a makeover, but these only differ in looks compared to the stock runs.

  3. Dynamic Discs - Lucid Ice Glimmer Bounty (4|5|-1.5|0.5). Like the Sorcerer, this run will fly more OS compared to regular Lucid.

Random Triples

1️⃣ Yesterday (11/8), the DGPT revealed their Rookies of the Year - Emily Beach & Isaac Robinson. To qualify, these players had only played 3 or fewer Elite/Major events in a single previous season.

For both rookies, winning this award was their season’s goal. To cap it off, Robinson added a 2nd A-Tier win to his resume this past weekend at the Myrtle Beach Open.

He’ll have his chance to tack on a 2nd DGPT win at New World.

2️⃣ All discs are meant to be thrown, but Aaron Gossage disagrees. On the DG Prescription podcast, he argued for all the collectors with disc-lined walls.

He doesn’t believe in having favorite discs or throwing limited editions. In his bag is easy-to-find stock that he doesn’t mind losing, so on water carries it’s easy to fully commit.

Keep in mind, Gossage is sponsored with access to many backups compared to us casuals. So really just throw what you want, and hang what you want.

3️⃣ On The Nick & Matt Show, an interesting product got introduced - Safari Knockers. They’re described as “exceedingly portable disc golf targets” coming in at 4.5lb and $88.

The concept is simple: Easy to carry and set up targets for creating safari holes anywhere. Check them out or add the idea to the list of weekend projects.

Meme of the Week

Thanks for reading today. Get out and throw new discs this weekend!
