Weather report, Sport Growth, and Imitators
Hello and welcome, this is The Players Meeting. The email you rely on to keep up with disc golf, in 5-min or less.
Happy Daylight Savings! After-work rounds are finally here. If you missed the Waco primer edition, then I got you: The age old question
Letās get into it.
WACO
RESULTS - š PAUL MCBETH & VALERIE MANDUJANO
MPO/ We all knew that Paul McBeth was good. But is it too soon to say this could be 2015 McBeth again?
This past weekend had it all. The weather was ridiculous, then perfect, then in between. The course was a great mix of wooded, open, and OB.
And who was at the top of the leaderboard after every single roundā¦ If he continues this, then 7 of the next 15 Worlds will be on the low end.
FPO/ Eveliina Salonen held the lead for 2 days with the crazy weather and her putting woes. But she couldnāt do it for 3 straight days.
In the final round, the leader switched from person to person. And even Catrina Allen was pushing for the win from the FIFTH card.
But it came down to the hardest hole (17), and Valerie Mandujano played it perfectly with a highlight 2nd shot. The home state hero secured her 1st DGPT Elite Series win ever.
STANDOUT PLAYERS
MPO/ Luke Humphries. Heās not just the host of the GK Pro skins match. Heās not just a face with[out] a mustache.
Heās the 2018 AM Worlds champ, and heās taking this year seriously. By taking a break from commentary, heās focusing on practice and proving heās got what it takes at big events.
FPO/ Catrina Allen gave the lead card something to worry about. Crawling her way up to 3rd from 17th, Allenās final round was 1023 rated.
This was her 25th 1020+ rated round of her career. She now trails Paige Pierce by only 2 (27 total) for most all-time in FPO (via StatMando).
HIGHLIGHT
For The Kids
Grow the sport. Grow the sport. You canāt go a day without hearing that gospel.
But how does the sport actually growā¦ From the ground up. Like everything, kids are the future.
Several organizations, old and new, are promoting disc golf in our youth. Universal Play Disc Golf (Uplay) has been getting kids excited about DG since 2017.
Founder Zoe AnDyke spoke on the Approachable Podcast about their mission and new initiatives. Theyāre marketing a DG curriculum to schools & teachers primarily in underserved communities.
If you want to get involved, then check out their site for more details. It can be as much as volunteering in person or donating old putters.
Top pro players have been getting in on this trend too:
The Paul McBeth Foundation - introducing underserved locations with courses
The Sockibomb Foundation - donating hundreds of putters and baskets to schools
The Ulibarri Leadership Foundation - distributing collegiate athletic scholarships to high-school disc golfers
Sorry Gannon, this yearās scholarships are going to the Collegiate Nationals winners. Might have to make disc golf into a career.

šØāš« Daddyās Disc of the Week: Discmania āReinventedā C-line FDFor the 1st time, weāre getting the remolded FD in Italian plastic. Now I know what youāre all askingā¦ Why do we care about this hype cycle disc?
Youāve seen the imitators or new versions, but thereās a reason why those discs exist. The FD is the disc that put Discmania on the map.
So why wouldnāt you want to give their newest version a spin? Snag one and compare it against the rest.
āThese might be the best FDs Iāve ever thrown.ā - Simon Lizotte
The full stock release happens tomorrow (3/16) at 11 AM EST with your favorite retailers.
If we couldnāt peddle Discmania more, Lizotte teased the Sky God 4, a signature Grip-EQ bag, and a new Tilt coming soon. Good luck Discmaniacs š.
Random Dubs
1ļøā£ After Wacoās round 1, Nick Carl made his name associated with more than McBethās roommate or co-host of a podcast. Carl shot his highest-rated round ever to tie for the lead.
And it was convenient timing with his new apparel company, Discura, launched on Sunday. They focus on clothing that protects from the sun while maintaining comfort and style.
2ļøā£ Youāve probably seen it. But itās so nice, you can watch it twice.
Tweet of the Week
Applications are now closed. I will continue to be my own social media manager. You can expect the same programming moving forward.
