If you missed the Preserve recap, then I got you: Destiny was on their side

Let’s get into it.

Player Profile: Holyn Handley

Let’s talk about one of the latest athletes to join the Tour. Holyn Handley played competitive volleyball for 10 years then powerlifted for 3 years.

Her athleticism shows with her distance and her camera time on these long courses. She even got compared to the likes of Ella Hansen by The Nick & Matt Show.

In her off-time, she coaches players through video form reviews and in-person sessions. She firmly believes that we’ll see a wave of coaches in the next 10 years.

As touring pros start to age out, they’ll want to change their lifestyle and coaching could be a viable option. The Preserve winner, Bradley Williams, agrees with her through his 5-year plan when interviewed after his victory.

Starting last year, Williams wants to build his brand and knowledge by the time he’s 40 (currently 36). Then he wants to coach, design courses, and run tournaments - taking on a more “elderly, experienced” role in the sport.

Thankfully that means we’ll be seeing Williams, Handley, and all our loved pros for years to come. But when they do decide to hang up their van keys, then we’ll be treated to the greatest generation of coaches.

USWDGC

PREVIEW (6/30-7/3)

With 320 players, the biggest Women’s Major ever starts now in Madison, WI. The FPO field of 90 will play 2 rounds at Token Creek then 2 rounds at Elver Park.

The courses are attackable and require a “deuce or die” mentality until the end. The event is hosted by the same crew who runs Mad City Open every year for the past 28.

LAST YEAR RECAP

Last year’s event was 3 days in May on three North Cali courses. To say Paige Pierce dominated the field might be an understatement.

She didn’t give her competitors a chance starting with a 1015-rated round at Auburn Regional Park, then a 1023-rated round at Shady Oaks Park, and finally a 1035-rated round at Johnson Springview Park - averaging 1024-rated golf that weekend.

Her closest competitor was Hailey King sitting 13 strokes back. Next was Ella Hansen 1 back from King. This was Hansen’s breakout with her first and only podium finish at a Major.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

With Kristin Tattar still out with Covid/nerve pain and Pierce trying to be the most winningest, let’s watch Juliana Korver this week. The courses play to her strengths, and she has the experience to win.

Finishing in the top 10 for almost all her 2022 events, Korver has proven she still can hang with the best. On PDGA Radio, she mentioned the division has gotten better, and she’s thrilled to keep up.

Her off-season training didn’t go as planned due to breaking her right hand at the end of Nov 2021. But at 51 years old and still competing at the highest level, Korver’s experience and natural ability to throw isn’t going anywhere.

You’ll be able to watch live all weekend on DGN. Or on next-day coverage from JomezPro, GK Pro, and PDGA.

Stat That

Segment provided by PDGA STATS. Your go-to for in-depth analysis with “Inside The Numbers” & “Tour Series Talk.”

With Tattar missing the USWDGC, Pierce should be the favorite to win by a large margin. Using UDisc’s World Rankings comparison, we can predict the odds of UDisc’s top 6 players winning in head-to-head competition.

With Tattar in the mix, she would be favored at 36%, Pierce at 30%, and Catrina Allen at 12%. When you remove Tattar, Pierce shoots up to a 41% chance of victory, and Allen moves up to just an 18% chance.

Shorter courses should level the playing field a bit, so just like last year, I suspect the best putter will come out on top again.

Random Dubs

1️⃣ I’m sure you’ve seen glimpses of a game called Ript Revenge. It’s a card game that you play with your buddies during a round. There are rules and ways to screw each other for good old-fashioned fun.

A Redditor made a similarly themed game but on mobile. It’s called “Disc Golf Party,” and currently you can download it on Google Play. It’s 100% free with zero ads.

The app has great initial feedback and has been downloaded over 500 times. Give it a go at your next outing, so you can mess with each other’s scores without physical cards.

2️⃣ Simon Lizotte’s bank account was made a bit happier yesterday with the Sky God 4 release. On Discmania’s shop alone, at least 5k were sold in the 1st minute.

Doing some quick math… If Lizotte gets $5/disc (typical royalty amount), then he’s at least $25k happier. And that’s not counting the hundreds of retailers who sold dozens each.

His popularity is at an all-time high, and he deserves it all. It can’t hurt that the C-line P2s are incredible discs too.

Meme of the Week

Thanks for reading today. Get out and spend this weekend!
