Let’s get into it.

UP YOUR GAME
Scottie Scheffler’s Leg

Starting today, the PGA Tour heads to Memorial Park Golf Course for the Houston Open. That’s right, I’m talking about stick golf.

And more specifically about its #1 player - Scottie Scheffler - and his “Classic Swing” style.

Pointed out by Trebuchet DG, Scheffler’s form lends itself to BH mechanics. Getting almost airborne, his rear leg acts only as a counterweight resulting in more weight into his brace.

So how do we incorporate this into our throws? By using Trebuchet’s one-leg drill:

  • Put your back foot on its toes

  • Put almost all your weight on your front leg

  • You now have a rotational axis between your head and back leg

  • Rotate your hips and arm around that axis to calibrate your brace

You’ve now successfully removed the upper body from the throw and understand how to keep your body mass centered. More power can be added to this foundation.

Follow Trebuchet for more one-leg gospel. It’s widely supported by DG Spin Doctor and Overthrow DG.

PREVIEW (3/29-31)

Just a hop, skip, and a jump away the Tour drives 3 hours from Austin to Houston, TX. While this historic event is in its 29th year, it’s seen changes.

Last year, the new venue (Brock Park) debuted as an expanded 2-course property - 1 for each division. The layouts proved distinctive and a good fit that they’re mostly unchanged, and the event is upgraded to Elite status.

Borrowing from the removed ball golf course, the MPO layout features rolling hills, dangerous greens, and mature trees. The FPO layout shares standard Brock holes that are some of the best in Houston with beautiful water features.

It’s the final event of the TX Swing, and players want to go into the off-week riding high. This month we’ve seen the Waco Bridge, cowboy hat, Sprinkle’s butterflies, and now we’ll end with the belt buckle trophy.

Our March Madness comes to an end in 3 days.

LAST YEAR RECAP

MPO/ Due to its Silver status, many big names were absent. But that didn’t matter to Calvin Heimburg who put up stunning stats:  93% C1X, 57% C2, & 67% birdie rate.

His defining 6-stroke victory came after his Vegas win and 2 podiums. It was already looking to be Vinny’s year at this point.

FPO/ In her 4th event after committing to full-time touring, Sai Ananda made her name known. For 7 years, she worked towards this moment and did it stunningly over Tattar & Scoggins.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Skipping last year, Ricky Wysocki is back to reclaim his belt buckle. His history at this event runs deep.

Since 2013, he’s won it 6 times. And even though he’s never played this layout, his distance and no-fear putts are the perfect fit.

Compared to MPO, the women’s layout is attackable. Ohn Scoggins proved it with a skip ace on the 2nd hole last year.

Expect her to push for the top as Tattar battles minor injuries and Gannon nurses her 1st Major hangover celebrating her 35th birthday tomorrow.

QUICK HITS
Random Dubs

1️⃣ Last season, GK Pro took a full step back from their Tour coverage. In its place, they focused on Tour Skins.

Now, they’re innovating more with their latest series called “Beat the Pros”. How does it work?

  • Along their Skins stops, they’re hosting competitions for locals. The 1st will be at Persimmon Ridge (AR), then Bud Hill (TN), and then Horning Hideout (OR)

  • To qualify, a flex start is held during the week before ($50/entry or $125 for 3 tries)

  • The top 20 scorers play in the “Birdie or Die” showdown

  • The 4 remaining qualifiers get to challenge the touring pros

  • The main event is a filmed card of qualifiers and a card of pros

  • If one of the qualifiers shoots the hot round against the pros, then they win $10k

The 1st event is during the upcoming Persimmon Ridge Retreat (A-Tier) and its Eclipse Fest. If you’re local to Greenbriar, AR, then you have 1 week left to qualify.

Hopefully, GK Pro can match the Champs vs. Chumps vibes that CCDG made beloved.

2️⃣ If $10k wasn’t enough for you, then there’s a $1m team event gaining attention. It has red flags, but here are the details shared by Philo Brathwaite:

  • SCSCX Disc Golf - nationwide team challenge

  • 1k teams, 10k competitors, ~$4m purse, and $1m to the winning team

  • Weekly post-coverage on select matches commentated by Nathan Queen & Philo

  • Team match play format with convoluted scoring matrixes, honor system skill levels, and “bagger alerts”

  • $50 to play

So is this legit? The event owners somehow got two pros on board to promote it, but it’s a logistical nightmare with scammy vibes. Time will tell.
